About us

GENETIC GENEALOGY utilizes DNA providing clues that could get you beyond your brick walls.  It is extremely helpful particularly with Polynesian genealogy due to the lack of documentation in the 19th century.

PURPOSE

  • To maintain and provide information to project participants about their DNA results.
  • To teach participants to use their genetic results in order to establish genealogical connections with project members and other matches.
  • To identify specific haplogroups for various Polynesian groups.


WHAT IS NEEDED IN THE PROJECT

  • Males with a direct Polynesian paternal line and have their Y-DNA results.
  • Males or females with a direct Polynesian maternal and have their full mtDNA results.
  • Males or females with autosomal (Family Finder) results and have Polynesians matches.


TO QUALIFY FOR THE PROJECT

Be of Polynesian ancestry, and have at least one of the following tests done:
  1. Y-DNA results for a Polynesian male with a direct paternal Polynesian lineage.
  2. mtDNA Full results for any Polynesian with a direct maternal Polynesian lineage. [Some existing members who do not have full mtDNA results yet have been recommended to upgrade to a full mtDNA.]
  3. autosomal (Family Finder) results for Polynesians.
