Project Background:
As of 15 June 2006, we are just getting started!

The BNL in the Project Name represents the many variations of the names that always have the B, N, and L, but vary with 1 or 2 N's or L's, uses an O or U. If you are interested in joining this group, but your spelling-variation is not yet included, go ahead and join and I will add your spelling variation to the list.

This is intended to be a World-Wide effort. Although most of the folks we have been tracing in our tree tend to have lived in the United States and Canada, we are aware of roots in England, Ireland, and France. We also are aware of folks in Australia and South Africa. (I know I’m missing several, so feel free to educate me with more facts!)

The BNL_dna Project is closely tied to The BUNNELL/BONNELL Newsletter found at
http://www.bunnellfamily.com
If you are not receiving this Newsletter, you can get a sample to see what you're missing.
However, you do NOT have to be receiving the newsletter to join this group.

The BNL_dna Project also references Claude Bunnell’s DATABASE ‘CBD’ found at
http://bunnellbonnellburnellfamily.com
If you are aware of ANY missing data or CORRECTIONS that the Database could use,
PLEASE, forward that information to either
Claude Bunnell (see his website) or to one of the Administrators of this site (see top of this page).

Project Goals:
To provide Scientific corroboration to the many reams of Manually recorded data of our History & Ancestral-Tree.

Please follow the link at the Top-Left of this page titled
- REQUEST TO JOIN THIS GROUP -
which will enable you to JOIN this BNL_dna Group Project and
will provide you with an ORDER FORM for the DNA Test.

Then, for first time testing, select the button labeled
I want to purchase a test to join the project

Please review the FTDNA info for the Marker Count (12, 25, 37, 67, etc) you want. So far, some of us are performing the 37-level test, the Y-DNA37. However, depending on your interest, the 12-level may, or may not, provide the results you desire. Obviously, the more markers, the better the results.

There will be comparison tests with as many Markers as available. In other words, if you only perform a 12-Marker test, those will be compared with the same 12-Markers of those receiving the 37-Marker test. Also, you can request an upgrade to a higher level test if the lower test does not provide you with the details desired.

Here is a discussion on the Marker Chart and its usefulness
http://www.familytreedna.com/markerschart.html .

Here is a discussion on the Quantity of Markers
http://www.familytreedna.com/faq2.html .

There is also a difference in testing for Males and Females. Again, please review the FTDNA info.

Here is an Inheritance Chart and an explanation of the Male/Female test relationships
http://www.familytreedna.com/tc.html .

Note that this is not a blood test, but a ‘cheek scraping’.
Here is an example of the Test Kit

We are aware of the concern for confidentiality of this data and the tie to the individual donor. Family Tree DNA
will control the sample and the data.
You will be asked to sign a Release Form for FTDNA’s use. The results will be sent to the Group Administrator.

Please be assured that the control of the results sent to me as the Group Administrator will be kept confidential.
As we proceed in this project, we will eventually have to tie the DNA Results to the Family Tree.
This will not be done without your express permission for BOTH the Website and the Newsletter.

Please review the Privacy Statements at the FTDNA Web site for their part.

Please contact me, the Group Administrator, Steven L. Bonnell, BNL_dna@KBSB.com if you have ANY concerns on my part.

Since most, if not all, of the members trace their roots from the British Isles, I have taken the on-line data of another project (British Isles 2) and inserted the BNL Data, just to give you a better look at what can be seen when there are a large number of test results. DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members

* Haplogroups in green have been confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider ordering a SNP confirmation test.
